How did the Wellness Industry Come about?
After the 2nd World War, from 1946 – 1964, fifty thousand babies were born every day around the world. These babies are known as the “Baby Boomers”. Each day, now fifty thousand “Baby Boomers” are turning 50, and growing increasingly concerned about their health and financial security.
Fast food became available from the 1970’s, and over the last three decades has become ever more popular, and increasingly easily obtainable. This has led to a nation being brought up on a diet of sugary and fatty foods. Obesity, due to this diet, has become a global epidemic. In the UK, in recent times, the media has been highlighting the facts of increasing numbers of diabetics (a condition brought about by being overweight) and of people being not just overweight, but being obese.
Put these two facts together, and what have you got?
Fifty thousand people a day, a good percentage of whom (not all of them) are probably overweight and in need of a healthier diet, and whose own children are possibly overweight themselves.
Due to the technological age we live in now, corporate companies are down-sizing and cutting work-forces in order to reduce expenditure, as computers can now do the same work, as humans, but in half the time.
However, this same technology has enabled most people to have a computer at home. This puts the internet in just about every home in the country. The internet means that it has never been easier than it is now, to run a business in the comfort of your own home, (or a beach, if you prefer). More and more people are turning to the internet in order to purchase just about anything you can imagine. Some are logging on for information, while others are looking to change something in their lives – whether it’s their financial situation or their health, or both. 80% of people in full-time employment, hate their jobs. Together with lack of money, lack of time, price of petrol and poor quality of life, more people than ever are looking for something that can give them more out of life.

The Wellness
Industry
World renowned economist and author, Paul Zane Pilzer, former economic advisor to two United States Presidents and the Editor in Chief of Success Magazine, predicts the Wellness Industry will be the next major force in
worldwide business, reaching an annual turnover of 1 TRILLION dollars by the year 2010.
So what is the wellness industry? Over the last few decades, more
health and fitness clubs
have opened. Sports centres have created gyms, and private gyms have opened. There are more professionals like chiropractors and osteopaths, as doctors are becoming more open minded about treatment of bad backs etc, and are referring their patients to the people who can help cure a condition without the use of drugs.
That is one side of the industry. Another has identified there is a problem with the diet of many around the world. Fast Food is killing us. Overweight and obesity levels are
shooting through the ceiling and obesity is almost as big a killer as heart disease in the
UK today.
Pilzer explains why consumers will turn away from
consuming more material goods and instead seek to achieve internal
self-improvement - healthier foods, vitamins, nutritional
supplements and fitness programs - and why consumers will create a
virtually limitless and sustained demand for wellness-based
products.
In his book he says:
"The greatest opportunity in all products of new
technology, traditionally and in the future is in the DISTRIBUTION
of those products," he writes, "....the real money is made by people
who carry that invention from the laboratory to the consumer, and
make an impact on that consumer's life. Those people are the
DISTRIBUTORS of Wellness Products and Services.
We are starting to see the emergence of a wellness
distribution business... a business of people who educate people
about products and services that will improve their health and
develop customer relationships and then people will go back to their
distributor of that product for more and more information on food
and health.
The number one reason of all reasons (people) turn
on the Internet is to find out information about health and
wellness. HEALTH is the most popular subject on the web.
Ten years from
now...we will look back on this time with the Internet as the
BEGINNING of the health and wellness information EXPLOSION that the
Internet is causing."
